In the beginning, the Internet was a source of information where content prevailed, but the container, or visual aspect, left a lot to be desired. With the advance of technology, images, layout, animations, types of letters, and other elements were incorporated to achieve visually more attractive web pages. It was then when web developers were added to the designers, trying to give the pages visually differentiating aspects and creating a brand image. Let's see what the work of a designer and a web developer consists of. The work of a web designer A web designer uses graphic design software and graphics (such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) to create an image for the web. The designer is not always the person who writes the code and in some cases can work independently of the team that will capture the idea on the network. Much of a designer's work is creative and uses intuition and imagination, characteristics of people who are considered to have more developed the right side of the brain. The people in this position usually have an education in a variety of fields, but the most common are those who have studied graphic design and fine arts. Designers collect their work in portfolios to present their projects to potential clients. The best designers have a good knowledge of a wide variety of concepts including color and typography, spatial relationships, audience and user experience. The work of a web developer A web developer builds the backbone of the website, usually from the beginning, and knows specific web languages. HTML, Javascript, jQuery, and CSS are some of the tools in your kit. The developers, historically, do not focus on doing something that seems appealing to the eye, but on creating websites with clean code and that are technically sound. Web developers are often people who are considered to have a more developed left brain. Skills such as technical ability and logical thinking are an essential part of their repertoires. Web developers can have studied in a variety of fields such as computer science or programming. Two jobs, one goal In the end, web designers and web developers work towards a single goal - to create a website or application that seduces and attracts users. For this, both in the design and development must be well conjugated. A site needs to look good and function correctly. Colors and images should reflect the brand and the interface has to encourage visitors to take the desired action. The line between designer and developers is becoming more blurred as more designers are learning the code and more developers are paying close attention to design theory. We are all beginning to see that the future of the field includes a title of designer/web developer. Can you be a web designer and developer at the same time? The answer is yes, I include myself in that group of web designers-developers, and more and more people are beginning to label themselves in this way. Large companies still have their design department and their development department separate. But the small freelance that we carry out the tasks of design and development of sites have had to train us in both areas to be able to offer our clients a differential treatment in front of the big companies.
